Going to Carolina in my mind

November 3, 2008 at 4:41 pm (plays well with others)

The wedding weekend on an Outer Banks island was flawless. The Halloween welcome reception was at the bride’s parents’ island home and 70% of the guests were in costume. The ceremony took place in a tiny chapel near a lighthouse. The bride wore Monique Lhuillier and the guests ate local seafood and filet mignon. The band played Beach Music and I sang back up on “Brown Eyed Girl”.  The after party outlasted the bride and groom. The Future CEO added flannel pajama pants under the dress she wore to the wedding and dubbed the ensemble L.L. Wang. The farewell brunch served ham on biscuits (a.k.a. the perfect hangover food).

Here’s what I learned:

Smoked mussels are delicious.
Cater-waiters are more fun when they dress like pirates.
Southerners really are that charming and gracious.
Lets-all-rent-a-big-house-together vacations are completely underrated.
Every celebration should include my friends and I singing “Don’t Stop Believing” at the top of our lungs. And golf carts.

My then boyfriend proposed to me just over a year ago on the Outer Banks. Spending October in that part of the nation is underrated, too. =)
